Danya Stapleton (Fly Photography) Kelowna Session

Monday, June 14th, 2010

I love photographing photographers! I think because they spend so much time behind the lens, they know what looks great in front of the lens! I was thrilled when Danya Stapleton of Fly Photography in Kelowna contacted me for a shoot. I love her work and knew right away it would be a fun shoot! Like most photographers, she is always behind the camera for family photos so this was her turn to be in front of the lens with her two daughters and get some photos of herself as well.
When she turned up with her two beautiful daughters I let out a little squeal at their outfits. This family has style! : D Bright colours and summer dresses – two favs for photos. : ) Danya had brought a big cluster of yellow balloons to use in the photos that promptly escaped into the sky before any shots could be taken (it was attached to this cone thing that broke off ) but we quickly forgot about it and got into the shoot! Danya is a natural in photos! She was able to let loose and have fun so that it gave me tons of opportunities to catch her personality.

She was also hosting a party for her mom’s birthday as well so, after getting some shots outside, we headed to Danya’s place (also home of the Fly Photography studio) to get some shots of her with her girls around their house (after another awesome outfit change I must add). I got to take some photos of the decor she did for her mom’s birthday too and it was so chic and beautiful! The theme was yellow which I am a bit obsessed with at the moment (as my friends will tell you) so I was in photo heaven taking detail shots of the beautiful set up. Lemons, yellow balloons, a carousel, limonata beverages and all sorts of other neat details! You could tell a lot of thought had gone into it and I’m sure her mom loved it! Thanks again! : )

Sidenote: It was a two hour shoot so hence why it was extra hard to narrow down photos. haha

Helicopter Engagement Shoot ~ Okanagan Wedding Photographer

Monday, June 14th, 2010

This engagement session was such a fun adventure! Della and Doug own a helicopter (Doug flies it) and asked if they could pick me up in Oyama. I drove out to meet them and they landed in a random field where I ran out to hop in. I felt like a secret agent. : D All the neighbors came out with their cameras- it was kinda neat. We took off and flew over the gorgeous green waters of Kalamalka Lake. This is where Della and Doug pretty much won my heart by saying I could pretty much choose anywhere (in reason of course) to touch down. So with my bird’s eye view, I spotted this great field that I knew I had to photograph in. They made me want to get a helicopter so I could take couples wherever I wanted to go ALL the time! haha. I wish!

We touched down and spent the next hour taking photos in a beautiful big green field. We saw an interesting red contraption from across the field and when we went to investigate we found this huge piece of farm equipment that looked like it had been sitting there for years. A tree had even grown out of it.

When we finally had to lift off, Doug flew us around the new Sparkling Hill Resort on the way back and it was fun to get such an up close interesting view of the gorgeous new development. Sparkling Hill Resort is where Della is getting ready for her wedding in August, before moving on to Summerhill Winery in Kelowna for the ceremony and reception!

I had a great time with Della and Doug- they’re a really fun couple with a bit of a rocker edge which I totally dig. Thanks so much for the adventurous shoot you two!

A little bit of Rock n’ Roll~ Kelowna Family Photography

Saturday, June 12th, 2010

What a fun family!  Angela, Heath, Payton and Kian met me for a shoot a few weeks ago at the end of a cloudy day for their portrait shoot and we we got some awesome light. Angela works in a photo lab and that’s how she had come across my work- a client had taken their negatives to get developed and she liked them so much that she decided to do a shoot for her family herself (yay!). I was excited when I met them and saw the laid back rock n’ roll style that Angela and Heath have, with Heath’s tattoo sleeves and Angela’s funky hair. Always fun to photograph people with funky style! ; D Payton and Kian were adorable kids full of energy and it was fun capturing them playing around in the tall grass. Thanks for the fun shoot you guys! : )
