Barcelo, Mayan Riviera Wedding ~ Destination Photographer

Saturday, December 18th, 2010

Barcelo Maya Palace in Mayan Riviera, Mexico is such a popular and great venue for destinations weddings. It becomes obvious as soon as you take a stroll around this place. It feels more like your own private little city on the beach rather than a resort. It even has it’s own bus system!

I was so thrilled when Angela and Angus asked me to be their photographer for their Mayan Riviera wedding! They’re such a sweet couple and I had a bast with them for their engagement session, wedding and trash the dress session! All of their guests were so friendly and inclusive at the wedding as well. :)

I was so happy that my good friend Shelley Weber of As I See it Photography in Calgary, Alberta was able to come along second shoot with me. I haven’t posted any of her awesome photos so that she can do so on her blog if she likes! : )  Shelley is someone who I just instantly clicked and became good friends with and it was so great to spend the week with her! Thanks for showing me your secret beach spot too Shelley! ;D

Stay tuned for the trash the dress session!

“Glass Slippers.” Cute!

I love mariachi bands! Their outfits are so cute.

This dude was walking down the beach near the wedding and we couldn’t resist calling him over for some photos. As you can see, he was a very good sport! teehee

Shelley posed this romantic shot! : )

Guests had to shake their maracas to make them kiss (nice alternative to tinkling of glasses which I dislike with a vengeance. lol).

Costa Rica Wedding Photographer – Trash the Dress!

Tuesday, February 9th, 2010

This is how cool Amanda and Garrett are. We set out to do their trash the dress shoot and the first thing they say is, “Let’s take Jessica and Danielle to go see those monkeys!!” hahaha. I love it. : D That ended up being the highlight of my trip (see past blog post where I go see the monkeys)!

The first two shots below are my favourite shots we captured. Garrett burned rubber doing a u-turn on the road to get back to the yellow buss as I just HAD to get pictures with it and we were racing to get to Shell Beach before sunset. haha. Such a cool, quirky van! Love the signs like, “Free Sunsets”, “Free Snow Removal,” etc. haha. Awesome.

So after we got shots with the sweet bus, we raced off towards the setting sun, headed for the secluded Shell Beach (which we literally had to drive down the sand on another beach to get too). It’s unique because rather than sand, the beach is made up entirely of tiny seashells, all smooth (and not at all painful on the feet) due to the water weathering down all the edges over the years. I really wonder how it got to be that way! Note to self:  Investigate that.

We arrived at the beach in time for perfect lighting (yay) and proceeded to have a fantastic session! Amanda was a trooper with her heavy wet dress trying to drag her into the sea whenever she went near it. Danielle was an awesome help again to me too and I’m excited to see her shots too! : ) She came up with the rad idea of having the bride and groom where our snorkels. : D

Check out the last post to see Amanda and Garrett’s wedding pictures!

This was definitely one of my favourite shoots ever. Really happy with the result. : )

I’m looking forward to photographing more weddings in Guanacaste, Costa Rica in the future! Costa Rica has definitely already become one of my favourite destination wedding locations.

Destination Wedding Photographer ~ Costa Rica Wedding

Friday, February 5th, 2010

I officially love Guanacaste, Costa Rica and can’t wait for the opportunity to photograph more weddings there.

When Amanda and Garrett asked me to come photograph their wedding in Guanacaste, Costa Rica, I jumped at the chance! They chose to have their wedding at the brand new 5 star Riu Guanacaste in Costa Rica. It turned out to be where Chantal Kreviazuk & Raine Maida (Our Lady peace frontman) renewed their vows in November 2009. It was fun seeing it go down on Entertainment Tonight Canada knowing I’d be on my way there within a couple months!

Besides being a gorgeous country, the fact that Amanda and Garrett are such a fun loving couple was another total plus as well for getting to do this wedding. I always love getting clients with awesome senses of humour and these two definitely do! Garrett has a dry, sly sense of humour and Amanda is always positive, smiling and laughing (totally contagious! : D ). Together, they make such a terrific duo! I had such a fun time doing their trash the dress session so stay tuned on here for that!

My friend Danielle Hayden was such an awesome help on the big day and I can’t wait to get a hold of some of the shots she took too! She really is multi talented (as you can see with her wedding decore business Stage Right, etc that she runs with her (also very talented) mom, Ria Hayden. Check out our adventures together in my last post and their awesome Trash the Dress session!

Amanda thought the little bride and groom on top were funny so I told her to smash their faces in cake. She happily obliged. : D
