Levanto, Italy

My Dad and I stayed in the beautiful Ligurian coastal town of Levanto for the last leg of our father/daughter Italy trip while we explored Cinque Terre. Levanto has a convenient spot right next to the last town of Cinque Terre, Monterosso and is even included in the Cinque Terre train day passes. We stayed at the cute Oasi Hotel which has a great location halfway between the train station and the beach (a 4 minute walk to each). We really loved having Levanto as our home base. The town has lots of character (I love how the streets are riddled with old bicycles) and great food! My Dad and I were pretty smitten with the focaccia pizza that was sold in several focaccerias throughout the town. We enjoyed ambling along the pier, swimming in the sea and searching for cool rocks and beach glass.  My Dad had a few days with me in the area and then left home for Canada while I stayed in Levanto for another week. In my week alone, I did day trips to Lucca, Portofino and spent the rest of my time relaxing and drinking in Cinque Terre.

    Dear Jessica,

I found your blog by accident. and all I can say about your travels & pictures are WOW!

My question is: I really thinking about going to Levanto & visit Cinque Terre area but I shall be solo traveler.

I ‘ve been living in Istanbul, Turkey, I have visited many parts of Italy including Lago Di Garda but Levanto seems would be boring spend one week alone.

Could you please give me some advise about there? I like being alone as a woman yet, your recommend would be nice.

Thank you so much from now and I wish you more happy travel around the World

    Mrs. Özlem,

Hello! Thank you for the compliment! I’ve traveled to Cinque Terre alone a couple times and I personally never get bored. So much to explore, including the beautiful hikes between the towns. I took a little day trip to nearby Portofino too (you can do a search on my blog for that post if you like!). If you stay in Levanto, get a day-pass for the trains and hike trails so you are free to hop from town to town. Have an amazing trip!!

Jessica I find your pics very beautiful, they make me appreciate the place I leave in even more… Judging by them I don’t think you were there in a very “busy” season, turistically speaking, but I think that makes it easier to appreciate it, I do 🙂 For Özlem, an advice: if you mean to visit us, be aware that the best months are september (when traffic and beach aren’t so crowded anymore) or before summer altogether, may and even june, not too cold, not too hot. This also depends on if you’re a lover of crowed parties on the beach or of silent treks around Levanto valley and the 5 Terre… In the first case, Summer is the time, July and August have one party or more for week, while Winter is a bit…what the word you used? Boring, a lot boring, yes… But beautiful nonetheless, because December’s sunsets are the most stunning thing I’ve ever seen 🙂 Hope you’ll visit and have nice memories of Levanto. Greetings!

Thank you! : ) Yes, it was early June when I went. I love Italy in May, June and September – I totally agree with you! I have been to the Cinque Terre area 4 times and hope to return next year if I can. : )
