Alva and Ashley did everything about their wedding to their own tune and that’s a part of why I like them so much! It was so fun to see a couple really make their wedding more personalized and without the usual structure most weddings have. We did their portraits first, just the two of them, and then we went to The Harvest Golf Club and the couple greeted everyone and they played some ice breakers. Then, right before the sun went down, everyone went outside for their ceremony. A fire had been lit and there were two sets of vintage his-and-her chairs for the grandparents while the rest of the guests huddled around. Ashley’s grandmother was the flower girl (so sweet). Alva and Ashley legally got married a week prior to the wedding so they could do their own kind of ceremony, just the two of them. It was so sincere and beautiful. They spoke their vows and did a few meaningful spiritual acts and finished by walking around the fire separately and then together.
We all then went inside to the whimsically Avatar-inspired reception decorated so beautifully by Stage Right Etc. My favourite part of the night was when Alva and Ashley sang a duet with each other. They chose the song “Home” by Edward Sharpe & The Magnetic Zeros and you could just feel the room swell with joy and love. Once again, they had my waterworks going! I couldn’t help myself – there was so much love going around. : ) One other highlight was Ashley’s cute grandpa singing me a song in German. I took out my rusty high school German and thanked him for the spontaneous gift (well that’s what I wanted to say but all I could really get out in my bad German was good ole “Danke Schön”and “wonderschön”).
Another big congrats to you both!
Check out Alva and Ashley’s engagement shoot we did as well!

Danielle made this cool garland for Ashley, instead of a bouquet.

Danielle took that great shot below on the left!

After the ceremony, we did a big group photo, Avatar style with all the guests being connected to the couple with a hand on the person’s shoulder in front of them as a sign of support.
